Innovative search engine for medical news, Newsguard 2.0, launched

Amsterdam, April 23, 2009

Newsguard today launched its rebranded version 2.0 service: an innovative medical news search engine and news email alert.

Newsguard originally launched in early 2001 as one of the first general news collectors which was later succeeded by Google News. During the past decade, several thousand users expressed a special interest in a medical, news-focused, service. Therefore the focus has increased and is now on alerting people on relevant medical news from the most trustworthy news websites.

"We hope that with our new service both the general public and the medical specialist stay better informed about developments in medical knowledge. Reaching the right people with the right timely information will simply help to improve healthcare." said Berend van Hemel, co-founder of Newsguard.

About the service

On the Newsguard website www.newsguard.com, a user enters a subject of his interest (e.g. diabetes or hepatitis c), his email address and the alert frequency. Newsguard then actively tracks several of the most trustworthy medical news sources for news on that subject. Every time relevant news is found the user is informed by email and the webpage where the article is displayed can be visited with a simple mouse click.

Newsguard was originally launched in 2001 as a general interest news email alert.

The Newsguard service and technology can be licensed by interested companies and co-branded versions are offered.
